Thinking about Jefferson
Bowen Island Ourselves is up. Will see what people do with it.
Really interesting review of a really interesting looking book - Jefferson's Moose. The book is " is a conversation with Jefferson’s ideas about building representative, republican government and the implications of those ideas for cyberspace."

The best of times
“You can get this burst of wealth that we have created from this rapacious behavior,” added Romm. “But it has to collapse, unless adults stand up and say, ‘This is a Ponzi scheme. We have not generated real wealth, and we are destroying a livable climate ...’ Real wealth is something you can pass on in a way that others can enjoy.”
Thomas L Friedman, "The Inflection Is Near?" in today's New York Times.
When bigger and better are thwarted, you reach a difficult point; we're there.

Shifting more green, community gardens
Here on Bowen there is a small permaculture movement brewing. Hat tip to Peter Rawsthorne for David Holmgren's excellent post on Permaculture Principles.
Just one month before this speech, Laura and George Bush were in the US white house:
"I'm a big believer in community gardens, both because of their beauty and for their access to providing fresh fruits and vegetables to so many communities across this nation and the world." - First Lady, Michelle Obama, Ferbruary 19th 2009 Full transcript of remarks by first lady Michelle Obama to u.s. department of agriculture employees
Shift happens etc.
[UPDATE via James Glave: So, Now the Vancouver Mayor is converting the lawn of city hall into a community garden]
