"Look at this"

Marketing tells us to "look at this".
That is, we are asked to displace attention that is currently put elsewhere.

If paying attention doesn't benefit the prospect, there is a problem. Marketing is taking something from people.

Not a problem if we were busy with nothing, or wasting our time, before Marketing came calling. But if marketing takes us away from significant things (our families, connection to the environment etc.) and hits us with unimportant, trivial or destructive things... there is a real disservice done.

And it is hard to forgive the brand whose Marketing department displaces our attention from a real bear approaching... we could be in peril.

OK, so I have simply repackaged Seth Godin's post, that's not a crime is it?
