The trouble with most marketing communications is that it lies about life.
Never been a huge fan of Robert Scoble, as I've never been a huge fan of Microsoft. But thanks to him I came across this
This post title is Robert's too.

Protect or perish
everyone is protectionist. otherwise our children would perish.
there is no necessary stigma in being protectionist.
Green makes sense financially, because doing the wrong thing to the environment is unfashionable.
It may seem self-congratulatory, or even like we are jumping on a bandwagon. But North American companies need to show how well they treat workers and the environment.
By doing this, they add value to your product, and put the boots to offshore and local competition whose policies hurt everyone.

Finding the right words.
Today there is local outrage about a local ( New Westminster BC) school that was renovated while students were in session. There was asbestos dust released.
The conclusion: the school district has an extensive inter- and intra- communication problem.
No.
Like a lover's quarrel, what we rationalize as communication problems are usually deeper than that.
What we see in the school district and elsewhere are relationship problems - effective communication is predicated on effective relationship.
What use are the words 'I love you' etc.
Marketing has interesting people in the field; it has also attracted sociopaths who are 'good at' communications.

Restraint
An interesting distinction between zen and tibetan buddhism: the latter's primary focus on moral conduct. No stats to support this, but it seems that today tibetan forms flourish, relative to zen.
I helped out my neighbor put down a floor on the weekend. A retired engineer, he insisted that I get paid ( When we are done, he will give me 200 glass blocks that he has in his workshop, unused). Bob has done well, and has a strong code of conduct. He believes in "reaping what he sows."
Morality applied to business - may only be a problem when you notice its absence?

Wanted: 2.8 planets or a better way of life
I share a 1400 sq ft house with my family - five of us in all. I don't drive much, mostly public transit. I hardly ever fly.
I took the Eco footprint test and found -
If everyone lived like me, we would need 2.8 planets to sustain ourselves.
Here goes, I'm re-enabling comments on this blog. Let the spam begin.

global warming and the titanic
There is no getting away from it. OUR global warming is making poor countries poorer. I think it comes as something of a relief to know that we are buffered from the impact of it all. "Put them down below, where they'll be the first to go" etc
Cant help thinking that the ethical dimension of consumer and vendor behavior is growing larger. This will influence marketing communications too.
